Our car. Other important features on Theo's bowl were our tent and Old Faithful, memories from our big summer road trip.
After the pottery painting we went to see a kid's musical version of the Nutcracker at the Fulton Opera House. It was just about right for the attention spans we were working with, and had the inevitable swashbuckling that was the boys' favorite part.
We walked around the new convention center a bit next, where they had this amazing gingerbread mansion!

Merry us!We had lunch at a wonderful Vietnamese noodle place, and then were home for a bit. In the evening we saw a singer-songwriter perform at the library, then went home for supper. Mom and I went to a Taize year-end service, and then met the boys at the Science Factory, just down the road from Mom's house, which was open from 7:15 to 11:00 p.m. as part of the Countdown. There were so many excellent exhibits; this is just a sampling of what we did there.
At 9:30 I was already checking my watch, but we shut the place down that night, leaving around 11. We had some snacks at home, watched the ball drop in NYC, and the boys saw in their 2nd New Year.We had to think of being in Yamagata with Mom and Dad 10 years ago, with all the Y2K uproar and the wonderful graciousness of our hosts. A great deal has happened in 10 years--where will we be for Countdown 2020?
