A Week in Iowa for the Big Boys

The second week of Ira's life, Theo and Adam had a farm week in Iowa with Grandma Charlene and Grandpa Dale. Some of the highlights...

It's hard work watching the older cousins make straw.

Up into the haymow, with spotting by Vince!

The perfect way to end a long day.

And the perfect way to end a week of toad catching. This toad was croaking in Theo's ear, "Goodbye, goodbye!" Thanks so much to the Iowa hosts for this wonderful annual tradition!

Meanwhile, back in Goshen, some of us were wringing our hands about Ira's slow weight gain. We saw a lactation consultant who helped us figure things out, and...

voila! Weight started piling on (much to our--and our wonderful lactation consultant's--delight)! Ira gained 3 oz. in less than 48 hours, then 8 oz. in the next 3 days, and the following day weighed only 1 oz. under his birth weight at the doctor's office for his newborn check-up. And the nurse had the gall to say, "I don't know why you were worried..." In any case, it seems that he is back on track, for which we are mighty grateful.

  1. Yeah, for gaining weight! I agree, what gall! You have every right & it's natural to "worry" about your baby's weight!

  2. Congrats to your family!! I'm glad to hear that Ira has gained weight and doing what he is supposed to be doing. I just got caught up with your blogs, and enjoyed the one of the boys with the cake "Come baby!" very cute. It looks like everyone is happy Ira has arrived. We look forward to meeting him!!
