This and That

Theo and Adam are in the car right now, going to Grandma Charlene and Grandpa Dale's house in Iowa for a week on the farm. This means that "Mommy" and "Daddy" have some extra time on their hands, and after sending the boys off, we took a nice long nap! And now I have some time to catch up on the blog...

This one goes out to those of you who still remember Mitch's M. Mokel/Cheerios shirt. As you can see, Adam got a chance to wear it the other day, not solely to ride around in, but as a painting smock.

A few weeks ago we went to our friends' house to say goodbye. They moved to Texas! When we showed up at their house, which was mostly packed up for the big move, Ryan and Nisha produced some awesome snacks, proving yet again that they are the most hospitable people around.

Rohan and I have played together since we were babies at AMBS. Now we're both starting kindergarten in a few weeks.

I wonder what their new desert home will look like?

Most of this happened while Theo and Adam were in bed, but during two days last week, Mommy and Daddy made a lot of applesauce from apples that grew on the "home place" back in Iowa. Daddy didn't want to buy a freezer, so he learned how to can (with Cindy and Evie and Malinda and John Hall's help) and now we have about 20 quarts of applesauce put away for the year ahead. But we may need to open and freeze each quart before we actually serve it, since everyone knows that frozen applesauce is best.

The other big news has been in our three cucumber plants in the garden. For a long time they did pretty much nothing, and we began to pretty much ignore them after a while. But this past week we went out to see if any cukes were ready to pick, and--ta dah! Over the course of a day of looking we found more than 30 big cucumbers hiding in the vines! It was like an amazing treasure hunt (Ah! There's another HUGE one!), especially since we are all pretty fond of cucumbers. If our zucchini plants had produced as much, we might have felt differently (and they don't only because we planted them in part shade to restrain their growth).


Do you remember our friend Sachiko who visited a while ago? The other day she sent us a great care package, including an awesome rubber band propeller plane and this tiny remote control race car. Once Daddy called it the S-Car Go, from a Shel Silverstein song, and that's what we call it now. In this video we are giving some Lego guys a wild ride.
