On the way from Iowa to Pennsylvania we met our friend Hisako on the north side of Chicago to eat and shop together at Mitsuwa Market, an authentic Japanese department store with an extensive food court. We all found something we liked to eat--Theo chose sushi from a wide assortment of options.
Thumbs up on the taste of Japan--real ramen and pork cutlets and curry and rice...We then drove Hisako back to her apartment and met her dog Eddie and her friend Najam. We hope to see them again soon!
We spent the night in Goshen before heading east to PA. I forgot to mention that on our way into Chicago our muffler started sounding really bad. Thursday morning before we left Goshen we had it checked out at the mechanic's, and decided on a quick fix rather than the full hour to fix it for good. Hmmm....hindsight is 20/20, or something like that. Partway through Ohio we heard a couple of clunks, and the compression pipe (?) was dragging on the road. So we took a scenic detour to get it fixed, which really happened pretty quickly, all told. But it was quite a bit more than an hour...

Exploring the strip mall while the car got fixed.
Ice cream break at McDonald's (the local ice cream shop next door was not inviting, with only outdoor seating on a cool, rainy day).

Short power nap before hitting the road again.
Luckily this episode didn't dampen our spirits for too long--here the boys are enjoying the fun of a skipping CD. We listened to LOTS of chapter books this week, and would recommend the Homer Price series and Frindle and the adventures of Charlie Small.
