Resurrection Lily

When Willa died, my cousin Candace and her husband Phil and her family gave us some money for flowers in memory of Willa. We bought and planted 5 resurrection lily bulbs. These are also called "naked ladies," and they bloom around the time Willa was born. They emerge, as most bulbs do, in the spring, but then the leaves die away and the flower makes its way into the world in the late summer.

Anyway, the first spring we got some green growth, but nothing in August. This year there were a few bulbs that sprouted in the spring again...and finally, this week, one single flower emerged, and is pleasing us to no end. Can't help but think about the odd way growth and blossoming happen in many parts of life, not in the ways you expect. We are very glad for Willa's lily, and wonder what next August will bring.
