A week ago on Saturday morning we went to a field near Goshen to glean tomatoes. The big harvesting machines had already gone over the field, and we could take the tomatoes that were left. Mommy knew about this through the
Society of St. Andrew, which organizes gleans all over the country to feed the hungry.

Look at how huge the trucks were! And we worry about not bruising our tomatoes on the way home from the grocery store (when we don't have any in the garden)! They must be pretty sturdy to survive this treatment.

A big tractor was pulling this huge pile of tomatoes.

We ran out into the field to check out this other pile of tomatoes, but they were all crushed and rotten.

While Mommy and Daddy gleaned, we did a lot of exploring. We found rocks and grasshoppers, and lots of tomatoes, green, red and black! We hope we can go on another glean sometime. Mommy washed all the tomatoes and gave the good ones to The Window in downtown Goshen, where they were used in noon meals and given out to families.
