Great-aunt Norma was our hostess in Harvey, North Dakota. Soon after we arrived we visited Great-uncle Wayne for a tour of the nursing home where he lives, then we saw some of the Harvey sights before returning home to put the finishing touches on a feast (including grilled sausages).

The garden is so neatly arranged, and we loved the stepping stones.

Mommy's cousin Perry and his family. Jason and his family also came later on.

I thought this might be like those talking tubes in some playgrounds.

Look at that toss!

We sat patiently waiting for the kittens to cross the street...

...and our patience was rewarded!

Our second cousins Ben and Quincy and their Ipods.

One of Norma's gorgeous creations for her grandchildren.

In the morning Mommy was reminded of her Grandma Lautt by the generous take-along lunch (garden lettuce and all),

the rhubarb kuchen,

and the best sticky rolls in the world!

A newly completed mural in Harvey.

Monday morning we set out to arrive in Montana by evening, and since we had no real deadline except the sunset (we camped that night), we took our time and did some exploring. We saw a really blue field in the distance, and couldn't think what crop that might be, so we set off on a very unused dirt/grass road to see what we could see. We eventually walked about 10 minutes through a bean field to get to the blue field.

I think you can see the blue field in the background (with the big rock pile in it) if you enlarge the picture...

Little blue flowers (which a North Dakotan later identified for us as flax).

One other discovery on a flat, empty stretch of ND highway--our car can make it to 98 mph if floored.

Great-aunt Norma's Elephant Tracks (I think that's what they're called) were an excellent snack!
