The Rest of Portland

On Sunday morning we headed out to Cannon Beach, fortifying ourselves on the way with a couple of monster cinnamon rolls. Yes, that is a golf ball-sized lump of butter on top.

The coast was cooler than the interior, so we Midwesterners had to make do with borrowed long sleeves until the sun heated things up a bit. Actually, it was really misty the whole day until we started heading for home in the afternoon, when the sun peeked its face out.

Haystack Rock, with hordes of tidepoolers barely visible to the left.

We had so much fun exploring the nooks and crannies. In this picture we are looking for the wily crabs that live between the mussels. It was great for me to see Theo really love this activity, as I had as a kid--and still do.

Adam preferred the dramatic potential of the sand, turning around and saying "Woah...woah...woah!" before throwing himself down in a fit of giggles. Here again the camera battery pooped out, so I didn't capture the yummy lunch at Mo's, further beach play and beach combing (crab shells and molts, jellyfish, shells and rocks), or the ice cream. A lovely day, topped off by a visit to Burgerville ("Burger Girl," in Ollie's lingo), the Northwest's answer to fast food. Compostable packaging, seasonal specials, veggie burgers...mmmm...

Monday was a HOT day, a kicking around day, with visits to two more waterplay areas. In the afternoon when we hung out in the hammock, Adam called us sushi rolls.

Thai food for supper, then immediately melting popsicles.

What a wonderful place to live! We hope Brad and Andrea and family will visit us in Goshen, but we will also want to be with them in these marvelous stomping grounds whenever we get a chance.
